I understand that this complex is just psychological but I want to know the origin of this complex and what affects our life (in psychological terms?)What is the origin of '; Oedipus Complex'; and how this works in our life.?
The complex is named for Oedipus, a character is Greek mythology who killed his father and married his mother. According to Freud, all little boys go through a phase of wanting, subconsciously at least, to get rid of their fathers and have the undivided love of their mothers. However, Oedipus himself had been abandoned at birth and brought up as the son of another couple and therefore didn't know the identity of the older man he killed or the older woman he married. Whether he SHOULD have known is another matter, and you'll have to read Oedipus Rex to decide.
For the rest of your question, I'd better leave it to people who have had more psychology than I have, but you may have noticed that, when you see a couple that makes you wonder what he sees in her, sometimes meeting his mother provides an answer.What is the origin of '; Oedipus Complex'; and how this works in our life.?
The oedipal complex is a theory in one type of psychology. It doesn't enter into other schools of thought. Second, the oedipal stage is between three and five years old, and DOESN'T mean ';he wants to have sex with his mother,'; as is mistakenly said all the time. But rather than write a book here, see this Wikipedia article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oedipus_com鈥?/a>
A complex of males; desire to possess the mother sexually and to exclude the father; said to be a source of personality disorders if unresolved.
It was in history when a female used to control whole group of family members.
';There once lived a man named Oedipus Rex.
You may have heard about his odd complex.
His name appears in Freud's index
'Cause he loved his mother.';
